| Episode 45 Situs Menggung at Southern Part of Mount Lawu |
| I visited an archeological site on may way
to Surakarta from Madiun on January
13, 2008.
The site has been known the place where
King
Airlangga has meditated and we can
observed
strong mysterious power in the area. I could reach the site, however there was no signboard at its entrance at Tawangmangu town. The entrance from the main road is S7°40'4.64", E111° 7'23.02", just at a eastern end of Kantor Lurah. We turn to south and go straight along the road. We cross a deep valley at the point of 600 m from the corner. It is about 500 m to the entrance of the archological site this point. You must ask about the way to villagers, since there are many small road crossing to our way in village. Cordinate at entrance of the site is S7 40.301 E111 07.780. |

| There are many archiological sites at foot
of Lawu Mountain. These sites do not form
the chandis such as Candi Sukuh and Candi
Cetha. It looks like Candi Planggatan near
Candi Sukuh. The site Menggung might be used for meditation but not for festivals or ceremonies. Use the following map to access to the site with your Garmin. |
