the great admiral who made great voyages
in the world several times in 17th
century. City of Semarang is a capital city of State of Central Java and commercial center on northern coast of Java island. But not much people knows that the city has been a center for foreign Chinese in Southeast Asia. There is a Chinese temple named Sam Poo Kong in the city. This temple was built as a place of warship to Zheng He where his staff Wang Jing Hong slept. Wang Hing Hong was a muslim and got a sick on his voyage with the admiral. The admiral asked him to land this place for curing disease of Wang Jing Hong. Wang and his staffs stayed in a cave on seashore to protect them from enemies. After staying year by year they became acquaintant with local pople and married with local girls. Their decendents are the first generation of Chinese in Semarang, according to legend. Casually I got a change to visit Sam Poo Kong on December 7, 2006 on my way of duty trip in Semarang. |
